What is the best way to collaborate using LaTeX?
If you’re new to LaTeX and have some time frame to finish a document (especially in a short period), I won’t suggest you to consider LaTeX. Because, while typesetting your first few documents you would encounter lot of errors and questions. You would worry “how could I put something here”, “No I want my figure there”, “How to remove this horizontal line in my table” and so on. Considering errors, even a small typo may cause severe error and it wont allow you to compile your document. For example if you want to include an equation in a line, you supposed to call the mathematical mode by including $ sign. i.e, to type E=mc^2, you have to type like $E=mc^2$. Even though you may rightly typed the equation, if you missed one or both $s, it would emerge as an error while compiling the document. Of course, you can use something like, Kile or Latexila, still there could be the possibility for such a situation. Eventually, if you’re in urge to submit your thesis within the time, such errors may leads to frustration. So, its better to stick to your present writing package. PS. Still, if you really wish to submit the thesis in LaTeX, typeset and get ready the required text in word or odt form. Then by copy-pasting it to your .tex file you could deal with LaTeX. (You can find some LaTeX thesis template files here. ShareLaTeX, Online LaTeX Editor). If LaTeX fails, at least you could have something to finish the task. Best of luck.
