Is there any software for making graphical annotation on a PDF?
Not free…but… After getting lost in hundreds of pages of notes and PDF files, I started using Notability on an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil with Notability on the Mac OS. I tried all other note taking apps in the past year… but the current best is Notability. It handles PDFs very well, and is excellent for free form note taking. I am able to import the PDFs, name and group them in my note collection, highlight and annotate with typing or handwriting (etc.)… and, it syncs with my mac book pro for both a back up, and to have the files available on my computer. Maybe not the best solution for all needs, but a very handy way to merge computers and handwritten notes… NOW, I am truly paperless.

What's not to like. Free Software…not a word I expected to hear when I decided to start my journey of getting a Mac. I thought to myself, “How many Macs can you buy without paying anything”. I am glad I listened to my inner-Mac-guru… it turned out that I am a Mac addict. I got one, and after a few months I was writing with no problems… and, not the usual kind of writing… like “trendy” writing…but, still “just” writing. I learned to “just” type my own email addresses, write my own emails, etc. You can't really have it all using a “MacBook” computer, unless you want every single function and feature… and, that's not all these days. I am so, so, so, so, glad I stuck with the Mac and my Mac-life. Now, you may argue that there is no free.
