Now, we will be looking at moreVISUAL way of doing multiplication.Japanese Multiplication MethodThe Japanese method is a visual way to represent multiplication. It involves lines and intersections, and has recently become popular on the internet.Examples1. Let’s evaluate 12 × 32 using the Japanese method.Begin by drawing 3 parallel lines to represent 12, the first number in the product.Draw one line, and then, a little further to the right, draw two more lines. These lines(red and blue below) represent the number 12. Similarly, draw 5 more parallel lines to cross the previous three – three lines on the left and two lines on the right. These will represent the number 32, the second number in the product (green and purple below). Now we must count how many times all of the lines intersect.Begin by grouping the intersections vertically. That is, draw a loop around the group of intersections that is closest to the left side (where the red and green lines intersect). Then begin moving right. Draw a loop around the center intersections (the red and purple, and the blue and green). Finally, draw a loop around the intersections that are closest to the right side (where the blue and purple lines intersect). Count how many intersections are in each loop.So there are 3, 8, and 4 intersections. By combining the numbers from left to rightyou get 384. As a matter of fact, 12 multiplied by 32 is 384! Thus 12 × 32 = 384.Amazing, right?2)Let’s evaluate 124 × 14 using the Japanese method. We must draw 7 parallel lines to represent the first number in the product, 124. Draw one line, then two more lines to the right, and then four more lines to the right, again. Then, drawing the lines in the opposite direction, represent 14 with one line, and then 4 more lines further to the right.Group the intersections vertically and count every intersection in every group. If you put the numbers together like we did in the last example you would get 161216, but this is not correct. Because 12 and 16 are 2-digit numbers you must carry the firstdigit to the group on its left, as you would with addition. You can set it up like this: 1 6 1 2 + 1 6 ------------- 1 7 3 6 ------------Thus 124 × 14 = 1736.Watch Page on youtube.com link for video lesson !!!!Edit 1:I have been asked question what should be done if 0 comes in any of the numberFor eg:10 X 10Here, i am representing 0 with dashed lines and other numbers with bold linesSo the picturization will beNow draw the vertical loopAfter this, next step is to count the number of intersection..In this case intersection is counted as one, only when both the intersected lines are bold..If any one(or both) of the intersected lines are dashed it will not be counted. So the image below shows the answer for 10 X 10 =100Edit 2: There are many views regarding this technique..My view is "I'm not saying it is the best method,I am suggesting that it helps us to visualize the problem well.It is interesting how we take a multiplication problem and turn it into a counting problem where we can solve VISUALLY "And there is a disadvantage in this technique...If the number is big like 9 we have to draw 9 lines which looks messy and also time consuming..Watch this Page on youtube.com link in which multiplying big numbers(like 9) are handled better..The method suggested helps to reduces the time complexity to some extend not completely...Continue Supporting :)

How do you organize your PDF books?
Get an Evernote paid account and you can upload up to 200mb per note. This will cover most text only books and many short and mid length books with graphics. For PDF's larger than 200mb, you will have to split them.Once in Evernote you can annotate, flag, and add notes to your hearts content and you will be completely platform independent. I do this with Android and Windows, but it will work the same with iOS and Mac. A great part of doing this in Evernote is the whole text will be searchable from within EN so you will not even have to remember what book you saw something in to find it.
How can Evernote (product) ease a product manager's life?
I'm using various Evernote-based or Evernote-integrated products in my daily workflow:EMails: If the content of the email is worth keeping, I'm saving the email in Evernote, using Boxer's or Airmail's built-in integration (I could also simply forward)Research documents and presentations: I have a print-to-PDF-and safe-to-Evernote workflow installed on Mac OS X that applies to all applications. PDFs can be viewed inline in Evernote, without launching Word or PowerPoint.Tasks: I'm using Gneo on iPhone and iPad as a simple task manager to keep track of personal todo items. Everything related to development is either going to aha.io or our issue tracker, howeverThoughts and scribbles: I'm using Evernote's document camera multiple times a day to capture meeting notes and small charts and graphs that our data scientists create during discussions, so that I can leave them with the paper, and that I myself can keep the digital copyDesign and UI feedback: I'm taking multiple screenshots a day using Skitch, then annotate them and attach the annotated screenshot to Emails, issues or show them in screen sharing.Meeting customers and partners: I'm using Evernote's business card scanner and LinkedIn integration, which automatically adds the contacts to my address book and makes following up easy. This is how I'm using Evernote, but how does it make my life easier?Everything is searchable: Text notes, word documents, powerpoint documents, PDF documents are easy. Screen shots from Skitch are really useful. Text extraction from hand-written notes or business cards are really impressive.I don't have to remember everything, because Evernote does. I can simply rest in the knowledge that Evernote has my back and that I can search the fast archive of knowledge that I am building.Topic-based organization: From time to time, I'm tagging my notes "Product Management", "Product Strategy", "Competition", "Customers", so that I can build knowledge bases for specific areas of my workDiscovering related stuff: Whenever I look at a note, Evernote shows related notes, remembering me of things that I did not even think of searching for, giving me additional hints and ideas. All in all, Evernote is quite substantial to my daily workflow and the premium subscription is one of the best investments made.
